Atherton - Retirement Heaven

This one story Ranch house in Atherton, CA on a one acre lot was in need of a full make-over. New Owners wanted a large addition and full house remodel including a separate guest house and new pool. The façade was updated with a raised gable entry and an extended back roof allowed for a dramatic row of clerestory windows. The main living space has a vaulted ceiling up to 20 feet and a sliding patio door which opens the whole space to the back patio

Menlo Park-New Transitional Home

A brand new home on a beautiful street near downtown Menlo Park was commissioned for a family of five. The Owners wanted a traditional look in the front with a more modern back. A glass wall showcasing a modern steel stair is the centerpiece of the design along with all steel patio doors opening from the Family Room to the backyard. A pool was added as a direct view from the staircase.

A new one story house in Palo Alto for a busy family needed 5 bedrooms and 3 baths in this courtyard L-shape floor plan. The living room and kitchen are all focused around the back patio for enhanced California indoor-outdoor living. The house has ten to fourteen foot ceilings with large windows with views to mature trees.

Palo Alto Modern Remodel / Addition: Stanley Way

A ranch style home was in need of a full house remodel and addition. The small rooms were converted a large living / dining space with vaulted ceilings and skylights. Both baths were fully remodeled and expanded, and a powder room was added. A partial garage remodel allowed for a generous foyer, mud room, and laundry room.

Palo Alto - Contemporary Courtyard House

This Contemporary ~6,000 SF 2 story house with a full finished basement was designed for a family of 6 on a large lot in South Palo Alto. The angles of the home follow the layout of the unique lot and create an interior courtyard to which most rooms have direct access. The project is currently on-hold at request of the Owners. Materials include: Stained cedar, metal roof, aluminum frame windows, stone stair tower, and Hardie panels.

This was a full house remodel to an existing 3,000 SF two story home. The house was virtually re-built minus the exterior stucco walls. The garage was converted to a pool room and an outdoor fireplace and movie screen were added by the pool.

This 1950's one story Ranch was purchased by a Dutch family with modern taste and a vision for its potential. Relocating the kitchen to the back opened up the desired indoor/outdoor living style with connections to the back patio. The 8 foot ceilings were vaulted and skylights added. A new master wing turned a boring rectangle plan into an L-shape with views to the yard. The entire house was gutted and updated with modern fixtures and finishes from European vendors - The project was completed on a modest budget and the family of 5 was thrilled with the results.

Wisconsin - New Brick Bungalow

I was contacted by Bay Area neighbor who is a Wauwatosa, WI native. Her dream was to design and build a compact, energy efficient home for summer vacations and eventual retirement near her family. After removing the former dilapidated house (and a few found bones found during the basement dig!) construction began on this small lot near Milwaukee. Salvaged bricks were used for the siding, and triple pane windows enhanced the thermal protection from the cold winters. The chosen contractors were Green specialists and encouraged new innovations for wall and roof construction.

This Eichler was completely remodeled to include a new master suite, kitchen, and two bathrooms. All windows and doors were upgraded along with flooring and lighting. The original exposed beams and vaulted ceilings were maintained to pay respect to the Eichler aesthetic.

A local couple found an amazing lot on a quiet tree lined cul-de-sac in Old Palo Alto. We were very careful to not overwhelm the historic street with a loud, look at me new house. The results fit in very nicely and they are thrilled to make this their forever home.

This new home is situated on a large, wooded lot on a quiet Menlo Park street. The Owners wanted a Transitional Style to combine their love of East Coast farmhouses with a California flair. The covered front porches were a nod to the friendly neighborhood and the south facing orientation.

Palo Alto - New Residence

This home was built for an older couple relocating from China to be closer to their children and grand-children. The Owners requested an all-electric house with solar panels. Green friendly finishes were a priority as well as low maintenance exteriors. We worked with Jennifer Hale, Interiors for Modern Living and Keith Willig, Landscape Architect for a integrated product. The Owners are enjoying their main living space all on the ground floor with guest suites above for family visits.

My focus was to make a custom home with all the amenities attractive to  buyers while also keeping budget and profitability in mind for my clients. The home sold in 2017.

This hillside triplex was my first solo project after leaving a major multi-family project with a SF based architecture firm. The Owner wanted a single family house on top with two rentable units below. The property boasts a full water view of the Bay.

San Carlos-House Remodel

A small home was purchased by a young couple with two small children. They needed two additional bedrooms, a master suite, and full upgrade to the kitchen and baths. The flat 8 foot ceilings were converted to high cathedrals with skylights. A back deck was added. A full exterior upgrade kept the old charm while integrating modern elements such as black framed windows and a pop of color at the entry.
